Babcock’s LAND2097 Phase 4 solution puts AIC at the forefront, with 95% of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) undertaken in Australia, the generation of $326.6 million AUD in economic benefits and the creation of 178 local jobs.
Based in Coffs Harbour, NSW and Redcliffe, QLD, Eagle Copters Australasia will receive the aircraft, re-assemble, and provide ongoing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) on the helicopter and communications system in Australia. Eagle will maintain a trained workforce to be positioned to provide surge staffing to Defence bases or deployed locations as required. Eagle will work with Babcock to create two apprenticeship opportunities in Coffs Harbour; one Airframe & Engine and one Avionics. These apprenticeships will represent a unique opportunity for those who come from the Coffs Coast to be able to pursue an aviation career while being able to stay in their area.
LAND2097 Phase 4 has already enabled Australian-owned SME, Bend-tech Group’s, end-to-end team to showcase their abilities in Ground Support Equipment. Marketing, sales, administration, design, engineering and should Babcock be successful, fabrication, will all have had a hand in the success of the project. Bend-tech Group is a family-owned and operated company, and LAND2097 Phase 4 will reinforce the company’s in-house capabilities and the Western Australian supply chain, with all engineering finalisation and fabrication of the inspection and maintenance platforms and rotor blade rack being completed locally in Maddington, WA.
Logistic Engineering Services (LES) is an Australian Veteran-owned company, with 90% of its workforce comprising veterans who have served in one (or more) of the three service branches. LAND2097 Phase 4 will enable LES to continue to seek skilled and knowledgeable people from the veteran community including those transitioning from Defence. LES’ engagement with LAND2097 Phase 4 will position the company as a principal SME in the ILS and LSA disciplines for Defence and, through its eLESPro Software suites, as a preferred supplier of Australian software in support of the ADO. The partnership between Babcock and LES will reconfirm LES’ ability to deliver services in their specialist area of ILS and LSA and provide ADO Sustainment branches in Air Force, Army, Navy and CASG.
Gold Coast-based Craig International Ballistics (CIB) is a 100% Australian owned SME and a leading supplier of body armour to the ADF and police forces. The company will design the armour concept for the BELL 429 helicopter, including 2D and 3D renders. It will assist Babcock with LAND2097 Phase 4 from design to end of armour end-of-life disposal services. All materials will be manufactured on the Gold Coast, QLD, and additional up-armour proposal to include the rear passenger compartment was also designed and is available if required.
Based in Brisbane, QLD, Praxis Aerospace is a Veteran-owned company that provides specialty engineering services for aerospace programs. The company will assist Babcock in the Acquisition contract for LAND2097 Phase 4 by providing the required certification for Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) systems safety, human factors and airworthiness. During the Acquisition Program, Praxis Aerospace will need to employ new staff in Sydney, NSW, and will provide five staff in the delivery of specialities engineering services and supporting activities such as the C-17 Load trials and a future flight of class flight trial.
MMC Learning and Development (MMCLD) is a 100% Australian-owned SME that will provide state-of-the art training products and services that are in full alignment with Defence training trends and requirements utilising sovereign IP. MMCLD’s approach to LAND2097 Phase 4 will provide direct benefit to the ADF by designing a training system targeted at the most appropriate and effective delivery methods and mediums, which will ensure the transfer of learning concepts and objectives to the individual Defence learner.
Virtual Simulation Systems (VSS) is a 100% Indigenous Business Enterprise located in Port Stephens, NSW. With a proven pedigree in developing aircraft training devices, including within the Defence sector, they were a natural fit to develop the crew training device for Babcock’s LAND2097 Phase 4 solution. Babcock have maintained a focus in considering and involving recognised Indigenous owned enterprises within the supply chain and the employment of Indigenous Australians as part of delivering the Statement of Work (SOW) requirements.
L3Harris Technologies is a world leader in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) technologies and has been chosen by Babcock to provide WESCAM MX-Series electro-optical and infrared turrets for the LAND2097 pursuit. Maintenance and training sessions tied to the L3Harris’ WESCAM MX™-Series products will be conducted in Australia through L3Harris’ in-country service centre – Cobham Aviation Services. Babcock’s AIC plan will see that ongoing WESCAM MX-Series installation, maintenance and training is conducted in Australia via Cobham Aviation Services from acquisition onward. In partnership with L3Harris, Cobham will be able to conduct Level 1 to 3 maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services. Babcock is committed to transferring the skills to Australia to contribute to the development of the Sovereign Industry Capability Plan as it applies to LAND2097 Phase 4 from “Day One”. Located in Hamilton, QLD, L3Harris is the only supplier of WESCAM MX-Series turrets with a service centre in Australia.
Located on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, HeliMods is an experienced Australian aerospace engineering integrator of special mission solutions with aircraft for emergency services, search and rescue, and disaster relief. In the Acquisition contract for LAND2097 Phase 4, HeliMods will be the Approved Defence Organisation (ADO) under Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Subpart 21.J and will carry out modifications in Australia including conducting design and data approval functions.
