Babcock teams up with KiwiHarvest to fight food waste and support families in need

Babcock Australasia (Babcock) is strengthening its community commitment in Aotearoa New Zealand through a new partnership with KiwiHarvest, supporting the organisation’s mission to cut food waste and help families in need.

KiwiHarvest rescues high‑quality surplus food and redistributes it to social agencies supporting people experiencing food insecurity. With more than 21 per cent of Kiwi children living in households where food runs out, KiwiHarvest plays a vital role in ensuring families have access to fresh, nutritious meals.

Through the partnership, Babcock employees across New Zealand will get the opportunity to contribute directly to KiwiHarvest’s mission through food‑rescue volunteering, Cooking for a Cause sessions – a corporate team-building program that prepares meals for local charities – and hands‑on community initiatives. Babcock employees can also use their “Be Kind” paid volunteer leave to support the organisation’s essential food‑rescue operations.

Babcock Australasia Acting Chief Executive Officer Leah Grantham said the partnership reflects Babcock’s long‑standing commitment to investing in New Zealand communities.

“Babcock is deeply committed to supporting the communities who support us and so partnering with KiwiHarvest is another way that we are providing practical help to our local community – getting good food to families who really need it instead of seeing it go to waste. We are focused on finding ways to do more in support of our communities in a meaningful way.

“Importantly, our partnership with KiwiHarvest enables our Babcock team to play a direct role in helping our community too, while supporting an organisation making a real difference across New Zealand.”

Kiwi Harvest Chief Executive Officer Angela Calver welcomed Babcock’s support.

“Having partners like Babcock enables us to rescue more nutritious food and deliver it to thousands of New Zealanders who need it. We are excited to have Babcock’s people join us in this mission, their financial sponsorship and hands‑on contribution will help ensure more families across the country have access to the food they need,” she said.

The partnership reinforces Babcock’s ongoing commitment to New Zealand through local investment, job creation and community engagement. As an established, strategic partner to the New Zealand Defence Force, Babcock employs 500 people in New Zealand and is supported in-country by 600 local suppliers.

Babcock continues to demonstrate its long‑term dedication to the country’s economic resilience and social wellbeing by supporting local businesses, building workforce capability and contributing to community impact initiatives. In addition to KiwiHarvest, Babcock is involved in other community initiatives in New Zealand including the Auckland University of Technology’s Women in Tech program and the highly successful Coastal Challenge.
