Babcock International

Life in Rockhampton as a Rescue Crew Officer

Babcock is one of Australia’s leading providers of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), delivering critical aviation capability for emergency response and aeromedical operations across Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

Our workforce comprises experienced Pilots, Aircrew Officers (ACO), Rescue Crew Officers (RCO) and Engineers, who are trained to operate safely and effectively in high pressure environments.

Our teams integrate seamlessly with medical crew, including doctors and paramedics, to deliver life-saving outcomes. They routinely operate in some of Australia’s most challenging conditions, including remote regions, adverse weather and night missions.

CapRescue and our commitment to central Queensland

We have a long-term partnership with Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Services (CapRescue) in central Queensland, providing critical aviation services since 2013.

Operating from CapRescue’s facility in Rockhampton, Babcock crew and maintain the aircraft to support the 24/7/365 emergency services operation.

Babcock and CapRescue partner as an integrated team, assisting the doctors and paramedics to transfer and retrieve patients, rescue people, and respond to major trauma incidents and life-threatening medical emergencies.

More than 300,000 central Queensland residents rely on the service, across a total area of 350,000km2, which is roughly the same size as Germany.

In 2025, our crew completed 633 missions, flying a total of 977 hours, undertaking operations such as search and rescue, primary care retrievals, inter-hospital patient transport and medical evacuations.

Life in Rockhampton

Will Sincich is a Rescue Crew Officer (RCO), working alongside CapRescue paramedics to assess situations, treat patients and ensure they are safely transported. RCO is a role where teamwork, compassion, safety awareness and quick thinking make a real difference for people across Central Queensland.

Will was previously a remote area firefighter, with specialist experience rappelling out of helicopters to fight fires that truck crews could not reach. He then worked in community engagement before taking on a new challenge.

After making the move to Rockhampton from Victoria, Will has embraced both the rewarding career opportunities and the strong sense of community that comes with living and working in regional Queensland.

Will shares, “If you’re passionate about doing something positive for the community, this could be the career path for you.”

Alysa Atkinson joined Babcock in Rockhampton in October 2025 and had an immediate positive impact on our team culture. With experience in mountain rescue and as a first responder, Alysa is also studying a Bachelor of Nursing, bringing great transferrable skills to her RCO role.

“Babcock has partnered with CapRescue since 2013, and I am proud to continue building on the legacy of strong relationships and outstanding service through my work.”
