ADELAIDE, Australia: Babcock International Group has signed a new Transitional Services Agreement (TSA) with Adelaide-based submarine builder and maintainer (ASC) for the delivery of sustainment services to the six Collins Class Submarines.
Under the agreement, Babcock will deliver a sustainment program comprising maintenance, refurbishment, supply, engineering and management services from its Submarine Systems and Design Centre (SSDC) in South Australia and Western Australia.
The TSA contract is worth approximately AU$13-15m per annum and is effective between November 1, 2015, and June 30, 2017.
Bob Love, Babcock’s Australia and New Zealand Managing Director, Marine, said negotiations would commence in mid-2016 to further extend the sustainment support contract in order to align with ASC’s head contract with the Commonwealth Government.
Mr Love said Babcock had established and invested in local infrastructure and intellectual capital to develop significant capability to support Australia’s current and future submarines. This capability supported the design, build, test and maintenance programmes for submarines, as well as supporting Australian submarine component suppliers.
“From our Submarine Systems and Design Centre in the Techport precinct at Osborne in South Australia, to our In Service Support Centre in Western Australia that provides 24 hour, urgent defect rectification, we are well positioned to continue supporting ASC and sustain the Collins fleet,” Mr Love said.
Babcock has a team of 35 employees working directly on the ASC contract. The companies recently conducted a joint performance review session with Babcock emerging as one of ASC’s top performing suppliers.
