Babcock Australasia (Babcock), is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Counter – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (C-CBRNE) capability tender by the Department of Defence. Through a worldwide open tender process, Babcock was selected based on their ability to provide expertise and industry best practice to deliver the solution to Defence requirements.
Commencing 2 April 2019, Babcock will work with the Department of Defence to streamline sustainment and acquisition processes for C-CBRNE using Babcock’s industry-leading asset management systems. These systems have already successfully rationalised acquisition and sustainment practices across several existing Babcock contracts in Defence and the civil sector, both locally and globally.

Worth approximately $26.65m for the initial five-year contract; subject to performance, the contract will have a maximum period of 15 years. The C-CBRNE contract represents a new style of contracting for Defence, and an exciting challenge for the Adelaide-based defence and aerospace company. The win is also good news for SMEs in Babcock’s Australian supply chain as they undertake the creation of 11 new jobs.
As the Prime Vendor, Babcock will reform existing functions and processes in order to realise savings and efficiencies in the management of the existing commercially available C-CBRNE capability, and in the acquisition of new C-CBRNE capabilities, including for Project Land 3025 Phase 2 Deployable Special Operations Engineer capability.
Graeme Nayler, Managing Director of Land for Babcock Australasia, believes this contract reflects a trust earned through Babcock’s proven Defence track record.

This win positions Babcock well for future Defence and Emergency Services contracts and we look forward to continuing to partner with Defence in future programmes, such as the replacement engineering fleet, lethality programme, integrated land target systems and deployable infrastructure,” said Nayler.

This contract adds to a run of recent Defence wins for Babcock, notably the support and sustainment program for two Landing Helicopter Docks at the Garden Island Defence Precinct through our joint venture, Naval Ship Management (NSM), and the Australian Defence Force Ground Support Equipment asset management contract.
