Babcock supports Women in STEM

Defence and aerospace company Babcock Australasia is supporting gender diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by sponsoring the University of Adelaide’s Women in STEM Careers program.

Announced in the week of International Women’s Day, Sue Whitford, Director of People, Performance & Safety Australasia, said Babcock’s sponsorship was part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting emerging talent in science, technology and innovation.

“I’m proud that equal opportunities and awareness of diversity are integral to Babcock’s talent management approach. As a growing business, we need to ensure access to the widest pool of talent available, selecting the best candidates based on their ability to do the job.

“By supporting female students as they forge their path in STEM subjects, the program will develop the leadership skills that complement their technical expertise to become successful leaders in an exciting field.

“We know that women are under-represented in STEM careers, so in sponsoring this important program, Babcock aims to enable the knowledge, skills and commitment of female students at the University of Adelaide to open up many more opportunities for innovation and benefit the industry overall.”

The Women in STEM Careers program is focused on equipping female STEM students with the leadership, resilience and entrepreneurial skills that will allow them to become innovative leaders in their chosen fields. Around 100 students are accepted into the program each year.
