Naval Ship Management (NSM), a Babcock Australasia company, celebrates 10 years of contributing to the sustainment of the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) maritime capability, growing local expertise, and strengthening sovereign industry capability.
NSM was initially created to pursue the Group Maintenance Contract for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Anzac Class Frigates. Today, the business has evolved into a Tier 1 naval sustainment prime contractor, supporting not only the Anzac class frigates as part of the Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA), but also the Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Docks (LHD) and associated LHD Landing Craft as the Asset Class Prime Contractor for the RAN’s flagship capability.
NSM’s General Manager, Gavin Stewart, said the milestone is testament to the company’s focus on collaboration at all levels – internally, with customers, and with supply chain partners.
“We are extremely proud to have been entrusted by our customer to deliver a strong and competitive sovereign naval sustainment capability for Australia for the past 10 years,” said Mr Stewart.
“Our close partnerships with industry, combined with the dedication and skills of our people, have enabled us to grow into a leading provider of complete maritime sustainment solutions.
“What I’m most proud of is that, despite our substantial growth, we have maintained our excellent safety record and commitment to collaborative partnerships.”
From the onset, NSM has focussed on delivering outcomes for its customer. At the core of NSM’s business model is a commitment to Australian industry capability development.
“NSM’s unique Inclusive Prime model sees us engaging with a wide range of Australian suppliers, of all sizes, to contribute to the sustainment of the ADF’s maritime assets,” said Mr Stewart.
“Our suppliers have grown with us, and we have created a stronger, more competitive local supply chain.”
NSM recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary at the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition in Sydney, where it announced an agreement to collaborate with Atlantic & Peninsula Pty Ltd (A&P Australia) on large ship sustainment on Australia’s east coast.
Babcock Australasia’s Managing Director – Defence, Andy Davis, said that collaborative industry partnerships are the key to delivering greater value to the customer and meeting the sustainment needs of the Australian fleet.
