Take a closer look: Wayne Bennison

Wayne Bennison

Asset Manager - Land

For a man who’s had more than 40 years’ experience in and around aircraft, Wayne Bennison’s knowledge of the aerospace industry is hard to compete with. His knowledge and enthusiasm for all things aviation is only matched by his commitment to customer satisfaction – to him, a good day starts and finishes with satisfied customers – which, is probably a good indication of why he’s in asset management for one of Babcock’s more well-known clients.

Prior to joining Babcock in December 2017, Wayne worked in aviation for defence and private sectors. Of his 40+ year career, he completed 24 years in the RAAF followed by 16 years in various defence and civil aviation roles. “I started my working life in the RAAF as an aircraft avionics technician working on many different aircraft types including the Mirage, P-3 Orion, F/A-18, PC-9, F-111 and Blackhawk. When I left the military I was keen to explore the commercial sector so I could focus on family and spend more time at home. Since then I’ve enjoyed roles at Raytheon, Tenix Defence, BAE and Cobham Aviation”.

Australian Defence Force (ADF) Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Collectively, Wayne has spent the last 25 years in various management roles leading small and large engineering and integrated project teams, supporting aircraft maintenance, modification and OT&E, and airfield infrastructure programs. He now leads the Babcock team responsible for providing Asset Management Services (AMS) in support of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Ground Support Equipment (GSE), which he finds challenging but very rewarding.

“My team have just completed a six month transition period with the ADF, which required specialised training and a comprehensive handover program working side-by-side with the Air Training and Aviation Commons Systems Program Office (ATACSPO). Meeting this contracted milestone was a significant achievement and the customer was extremely happy with the Babcock team, which I’m very proud of”.

Wayne clearly enjoys his role and contributing to something important. He also knows that the key to his success is his ability to speak the same technical language as the client and being able to clearly identify, articulate and address the challenges before him. That’s where his experience in aviation and understanding of technology across industry sectors sets him apart.

“I’ve always enjoyed aviation and the exposure to the latest kit is a perk of the job. It’s one of those industries where whatever job you’re supporting, either in defence or commercial, generally you always get to work with the latest technology – the best and newest equipment. It’s fantastic”.

Besides the latest technology and supporting critical operations, it’s the people that attracted Wayne to work for Babcock. In his words “It is a pleasure working with a team of highly skilled and professional individuals in an inclusive environment of respect and support”. It’s statements like this that make us all proud to be part of the Babcock team.
