Team Koalafied – grand finalists and Rookie All Stars

We are thrilled to announce Babcock’s sponsorship of team Koalafied again in 2019. We’re really excited to see what the team will build and achieve this year.

In 2018, team Koalafied successfully competed as rookies in the Australasian regional FIRST Robotics Competition, reaching the grand finals and achieving the Rookie All Stars award, qualifying the team to compete in Houston, Texas at the World Championships where the team captain received a national award for leadership and the team ranked in the top 10%.

Returning from the World Championships, the team took a well-earned break, but kicked off their 2019 season in August by participating in a “Robot Rumble” hosted by ASC at Osborne. From there they presented their 2018 robot at the “Science Alive Fair” at Wayville Showgrounds, then participated in a STEM collaboration with team Horizon and Babcock at our Osborne facility. The team has now set an extracurricular challenge of building a robot that shoots a 3-pointer basketball in the lead up to the 2019 competition. Good luck to team Koalafied!

About Koalafied:

“Koalafied” Robotics Club was established in December 2017. The aim is to create and sustain a fun and safe environment in which our student members:

• build and learn about robots
• field a competitive team in the FIRST® Robotics Competition
• appreciate and promote education in STEM
• receive mentoring from parents and other adults in aspects of engineering, software, robotics and business management

They now have about 40 students and their parent “mentors” who meet every Sunday to build robots.

In 2018, Koalafied competed as rookies in the Australasian regional competition held in Sydney in March. They succeeded in reaching the grand finals and was awarded “Rookie All Stars”. These qualified the team to compete in the Houston, Texas World Championships. Team captain, Ms Amber Kraczkowski, received a national award for leadership in the Houston World Championships. The team is ranked in the top 10% in the world’s teams and was featured in the science program “Scope”, which was broadcast nationally by Network 10.

We’re proud to sponsor and mentor this incredibly motivated and passionate team.
